I just have to say. I LOVE PAINT!. It sings and cries. It covers and blends. It is thick and rich, transparent and thin, depending on the medium, the surface, the brush, the pressure of the stroke--and a fresh new brush can make me smile for days. Especially if it has a mind of its own. I have found that the brushes I get attached to, I use so hard and long that they bristle out , wear down and say, "STOP!" before I reluctantly throw them away. I also have favorite colors that I can't get enough of....I sometimes want that color to peek through the clouds and glisten under the water and tip the tree tops and hillsides. Returning from a few months in the islands on a sailboat, I wanted to immerse myself in that ethereal green-blue aqua color. After returning from France I needed to paint everything gray, taupe and ballet pink. My paintings reflect my love of color and my mood. I am finding it more fun to paint atmosphere than subject matter lately. I am usually bored with painting a prepared still life, but I have learned a lot by doing them. I love painting in brilliant sunlight and I never tire of landscapes, which change, of course, by the minute as you observe them. My style and techniques evolve and change every time I paint outdoors. What a glorious adventure it has been to find such joy in an unsettled world.
